KV Kortrijk

Guldensporenstadion

Now struggling in the lower divisions of the Belgian League, it is not long ago that KV Kortrijk were a First Division outfit, with a stadium as good as most at that level. On our recent trip to Belgium in August 2001 we were on the way to Kortrijk, having seen the superb Elascon stand at Wevelgem, when we passed a number of Kortrijk fans on their way to a game. I nearly crashed the car as I was suddenly aware that a number of them were wearing Swansea City shirts - then remembered seeing an article about Kortrijk fans also following the Swans. What an inspired bunch! In true twinning style there are good reasons for fans of both clubs to feel as one - a good honest old fashioned home ground, a past at a higher level, and apparently a complete loyalty to the club through thick and thin. One day I will take a Welsh flag to a game at Guldensporenstadion!
