Park Avenue
Around ten years ago I took a stroll over to see the football gound when in Aber. This was before I had started
seriously collecting ground photos, so I had memories of a great ground, but as distant as any ground in the
country from my home in Kent.
Not being naturally lucky I have to make my own good fortune, and take every opportunity offered by my
week's work during each May when I work for the Welsh Joint Examination Committee. Even so Aber was a two
hour drive from my overnight stay in Swansea, and a further three hours from my destination in the Brecon
Beacons. This day was a true Grounds Frenzy (with a ride on the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway included for
good measure!).
The stand was as good as I remembered, a strange concrete structure. A small area of cover was tacked onto the
neighbouring bus depot in one corner, and a terraced area apparently being created alongside the stand. Earth
banking made up the rest of the ground, and with the hills in the background made for a set of delightful photos.

Aberystwyth FC should feature in a forthcoming book but
there are other Welsh Non-League grounds featured in
Grounds Frenzy - the book!
