Please note that this page loads slowly - please be patient! I visited the Goldstone Ground just twice. On my first visit in 1981 I saw Swansea City win their second game in the old First Division 1 from the diabolical corner terrace enclosure allocated to away fans at that time. The atmosphere among the fans who had seen their team beat the mighty Leeds United 5-1 the previous Saturday was incredible. Swans included three players who we had cheered from the Vetch Field North Bank in the Fourth Division, to which the club returned all too quickly. My second visit was in February 1997 when the ground had but a few games still to be played before it was cynically demolished. I walked around the entire ground, shooting almost a whole roll of film. The ground was showing some signs of neglect, with some areas of terracing clearly no longer in use. The loss of the unique floodlights, strangely thin, with a slight tilt at the top, sum up the loss suffered - in no way can any new ground completely replace what was 'home' to Albion fans for so many years.
