Darran Park
This public park is not the most hospitable of locations. Ferndale played on this artificial pitch until moving to
nearby Maerdy in recent years. The attractive old stand and terracing survive, inhabited by a most suspicious
and aggressive set of drinkers (what was their tipple? My best guess is sheep dip). I was accused of wanting to
expose their evening activities on the front page of the Rhondda Leader, and I thought at one stage that my
camera was going to have a new owner. My departure from the nearby road was rapid as my inquisitors hurled
rocks and rubble at my car. Be warned!
