Welfare Park
I have fond memories of visiting Tonyrefail in 1975, and recall seeing a game in progress at the Welfare Ground
from across the valley. I never made the effort to get to the ground at the time.
I eventually returned in 1995 and was not disappointed. This ground is ugly but beautiful at the same time, with
a run-down feel that makes it better still. Not visible in the photos is the method of sealing the sloping roof to
the changing rooms from the back wall of the seating area - a rolled-out lorry tyre, nailed in place. The steep
terracing would surely fail any safety inspection, but gives a marvellous view over the pitch and on to the far
hillside. A brilliant ground - please do not change a thing!

Tonyrefail Welfare is just one of the Welsh Non-League
grounds in Grounds Frenzy - the book!
